New Jeep Models Promote American Manufacturing

February 23rd, 2017 by

It’s time for Jeep fans to get excited: the long-rumored and eagerly anticipated Jeep Wagoneer, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and unnamed Jeep pickup truck have been officially added to the line-up.

FCA US is investing a total $1 billion dollars to modernize and retool their current assembly plants in Warren, Michigan and in Toledo, Ohio to prepare for the new models, creating 2,000 new jobs for American workers.

American Manufacturing

The new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be built at the Michigan plant. The revamps there will also allow FCA to begin producing Ram Super Duty trucks there as well, which are currently built in Mexico.

What we know so far:

  • The Wagoneers will be priced within $60,000-$100,000
  • The Wagoneers will use body-on-frame platforms sourced from Ram
  • The Wagoneers will debut as either 2019 or 2020 models
  • The Grand Wagoneer will be a three-row crossover and the new flagship model, with longer length and longer wheelbase than the Wagoneer
  • The Grand Wagoneer will have seven-element exterior lights, and likely use a HEMI V8 engine, and diesel and gasoline V6s

The new Jeep pickup truck will be built at the Ohio plant.

What we know so far:

  • It will be based on the Jeep Wrangler
  • Jeep will “look to the past” when picking a model name
  • It will debut in late 2017 as a 2018 model
  • Will likely include 3.6L V6, 2.0L turbo I4, and diesel powertrains with an eight-speed automatic transmission
  • Expected to use aluminum body panels
